James started creating pieces of music from an early age on Piano. At the age of 11 went on a short tour around the UK with the Welsh National Opera in Bizet's Carmen. Years later he taught himself Guitar as well as the piano. He got to the final of a singer/songwriter competition five years ago at the Hard Rock Cafe and songwriting quickly became a passion.

It all started with a kid’s plastic ‘Elvis’ guitar at the age of 7. After years of struggling with the thing, I was bought a Watkins Rapier (Red) Electric Guitar, together with a small Bird Amp for Christmas, just after my 11th birthday. Guess it all went wrong from there really. He also is in Rose Among Thorns.
Xenia loved violin from the beginning and started playing at the tender age of 3. She grew up with classical music and played in numerous groups including the National Youth Orchestra of Wales. She moved to Cardiff where the lovely people of Rumney Folk Club encouraged her to improvise and branch out into other styles. Xenia holds an ABRSM diploma in violin performance and is studying to perform the Mendelssohn violin concerto with the Llanelli Concert Orchestra in 2014.
"You can't sing to save your life!" my sisters used to say. " I'll show you" I thought, so I had singing lessons with Elaine aka my best friend! and have been singing now for about 10 years. I have been an integral part of Rumney Folk Club for the past 7 years, I was in the band Talgarth for 2 years and I have been in Quadruple for the last 4 years. I’m honoured to be singing, in the James Clode Band and am absolutely loving it
Phil grew up in a musical household – his mother was a school music teacher. During his early years he learned to play the piano and the flute before ‘giving them up’ as a teenager because ‘they weren’t cool’ (a decision he regrets to this day). Then, during his mid-teens a neighbour called over one Christmas with a Kay Les Paul copy in one hand and a cheap practice amp for him. 2012 saw Phil begin to collaborate with a neighbour of his, James Clode. It was downhill from there.

The first official Manager of the James Clode Band!! Marilyn has been the band's biggest supporter from day one and it was an easy decision and transition for all. We are proud to be working with this fine lady.
The Secret 10th member of the band.... The JCB's Sound Engineer for their up and coming Album. We are proud to know and work alongside this fine gentleman.
We are the James Clode band (the JCB). We are a nine piece contemporary folk rock band based in Cardiff. James attended a lot of open mic nights in and around Cardiff for 3, years until one evening he went along to an evening at Rumney Folk Club, where he came across the local house band that played there regularly. One cheeky email later and he was sat at a table in a kitchen with 7 out of the 8 members, rehearsing two of his songs to perform at the next folk club. 4 months later, they signed Xenia (Violin) to make it 8. Five months after that they signed Ffion (Sax) to make it 9. One of the Vocalists/Percussion artists (Elaine Morgan) represented France in the Eurovision song contest, along side Dan ar Braz back in the mid 90s. Now they play at regular events in and around Cardiff, with a full set list of original material written by James and the band. Their album (release date April 1st) has been produced by the amazing James (voodoo shazzam) Sharam.
A year on (2015) and the JCB have released a new EP recorded at Stir Studios "Set in Stone"
Since the band grew so quickly between 2014/15 the band decided that not all of them could make every event so at this point they sent out their carrier pidgeons... and came up amazing support in the form of Daniel Weaver on lead guitar, Laurel Phillips on Drums and Heulwen Thomas on Violin.
